VERTIGO by Butcher Billy (On-Sale Info)

We're excited to unveil our VERTIGO (1958) movie poster series in partnership with the Alfred Hitchcock estate!

Widely regarded by many as Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece, VERTIGO’s profound examination of themes like love, control and obsession led Sight and Sound to declare it the Greatest Film of all time in 2018. To honor the film’s enduring legacy, we’re collaborating with renowned artists to produce a series of VERTIGO movie posters in each of their distinct styles, paying tribute to this seminal classic.

First up is Butcher Billy’s terrifying interpretation that’s sure to give you a bad case of vertigo! Billy is a renowned graphic designer known for his bold eclectic style that blends pop culture with contemporary art. We believe Billy’s nostalgic flair would put a fresh new spin on this almost sixty year old property, and he’s certainly delivered something entirely unprecedented - dizzying even.

The poster is available in two versions: Dawn and Nightmare. Dawn pays tribute to the original poster with its classic orange skies, while the Nightmare edition vividly portrays Scottie Ferguson’s chilling dream sequence in vibrant technicolor. As an added bonus, we collaborated closely with Kim Novak, and the estate of James Stewart to ensure the authenticity of their likenesses, and we’re so thrilled to feature them on this poster.

VERTIGO will be available on Wednesday (4/10) at 12 PM ET via layeredbutter.com. However, if you’re a Layered Butter patron you can purchase your copy now for 48 hours during our exclusive Patreon presale window. Ships to North American addresses only.

ABOUT THE FILM:

"Vertigo" is a riveting 1958 American psychological thriller helmed and produced by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock. Adapted from Boileau-Narcejac's 1954 novel "D'entre les morts" (From Among the Dead), the screenplay was crafted by Alec Coppel and Samuel A. Taylor. The film follows the journey of former police detective John "Scottie" Ferguson, portrayed by James Stewart, who grapples with acrophobia (an intense fear of heights) and vertigo, a disorienting sensation of rotation, stemming from a traumatic event during his service. Hired by Gavin Elster, an acquaintance, Scottie embarks on a private investigation to surveil Elster's wife, Madeleine, played by Kim Novak, whose perplexing behavior sparks a cascade of mysterious events.
